New York City Bags Tea Party Activist Mark Meckler - Yahoo! News

COMMENTARY | Congress needs to pass a national permit to carry weapons, even one that's limited to legal passage in transit. Some states have reciprocity agreements with other states, but one must be careful of restrictions, cautions the "gunlaws" website.

New York City gun laws have criminalized an otherwise law-abiding American citizen when it arrested Tea Party Patriots co-founder Mark Meckler at LaGuardia Airport.

Gun-control crusaders on Twitter were initially heartened at the bonus catch of bagging a tea party founder but now Second Amendment advocates are battling back.

However, a resourceful defense strategy could conceivably get Sandusky cleared of some charges. As always, there are questions:

Public Execution & Sharia Law; Obama's Libya Legacy

Why is it that the United Nations is going to conduct a probe of Gadhafi’s torture and public execution? Didn’t they see the video? It’s plain as day the barbarians were having a good old time stabbing and bludgeoning Gadhafi –before they bravely shot him point blank.
Then they posed with the former dictator, a fresh kill bathed in blood. Followed by a circus in which the locals could get in line and gape at the two corpses. Therapeutic, you could say.
Lots of bloody fun was had by all. Even Hillary Clinton joined in, raising the dignity of the state department by gloating and laughing over the savage and barbaric spectacle. Google the CBS video, and see for yourself.
The Obama administration must truly believe the torture and execution of the “Madman of the Middle East” is something to be proud of, for there are no calls for restraint, just the usual victory lap.
I suppose the justification for all that is the Gadhafi was a bad guy, and did things that were just as bad. But if that is justification, then why the screaming from the Obama White House about little things like waterboarding KSM, a man who murdered thousands of people?
But there are reasons for the rule of law. Ever hear of the Nuremburg trials, in which Nazi criminals of even more monumental proportions were treated in a dignified manner befitting the legal foundations of great nations.
Gadhafi was captured alive. There was a chance for the “rebels” to demonstrate a common humanity and a sense of justice rather than the naked barbarism which was fortunately captured on film.
If the Libyans were proud of what they’d done, then why did they try to hide it by tall tales? First there were stories that Gadhafi had been shot in the legs and “bled out” on his way to the hospital. When that fib didn’t fly, Jabril came up with another whopper, that Gadhafi was shot to death in a cross-fire between loyalists and rebel fighters.
It shows a kind of disrespect and condescension, a belief that Americans are so stupid that they will believe that the people pummeling Gadhafi, slapping at him with fists and pistol-whipping him, and propping him bleeding on the hood of a truck, were doing so while “loyalist” bullets were flying about their heads.
But they are half-right to condescend to us stupid Americans. Some of the great lights on CNN tried their damndest to repeat the lies, to rationalize the brutality and the blood lust and the hatred. The poor dear Libyans were sooooo oppressed by Gadhafi that this disgusting, dehumanizing, barbarism was completely justified.
There was no need for humanity where Gadhafi was concerned. The hypocrites might be opposed to capital punishment in the U.S. for murderers, rapists, and other monsters, but they erupt into orgasms at the sight of savages ripping at Gadhafi’s wounds.
It was obscene. It doesn’t speak well for the people of the so-called National Transition Council. Instead of choosing to be a country, they have chosen to be for nothing. They have declared that Sharia will be the law of the land. They think that they are heroes by following in the wake of NATO bombing and stealing, robbing, murdering, and imprisoning suspected loyalists for have the wrong skin color.
Of course, there will be secrecy and lies from in the “liberated” Libya. We still don’t know what happened to General Abdel Younis, who defected to help the rebels, was called for a “discussion” with the NTC and then assassinated. It’s the New Libya…just like the Old Libya.
Thank you, Mr. Obama. Mission accomplished.

Currency Manipulation -- Q-and-A - Yahoo! News

Currency Manipulation -- Q-and-A - Yahoo! NewsTo most Americans, the trade in global currencies may seem something of an abstraction but not for those who shop at Dollar Store, Walmart and other vendors of low cost goods manufactured in China. Tariffs would result in higher prices to consumers.

What is currency manipulation?

In the U.S., "currency" means the dollar. China's currency is the yuan. There are things governments can do to increase or decrease the value of their currency. When one's own country acts to lower the value of its currency, it is politely called "monetary policy." When trade competitors do it, we call it "currency manipulation." There has been a strong inclination from some quarters in the U.S. to punish the Chinese for the influx of cheap imports. Tariffs are the instrument of punishment in S 1619.

Wall Street Protests: Co-Opting the Revolution - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | The movement officially began with the moniker "Occupy Wall Street," but I prefer the more reflective "Citizens Against Nearly Everything."

Symptomatic of the shotgun approach to protest, one news clip depicted a woman carrying a sign advocating for the establishment of a Palestinian state. The beauty of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement is that you can protest anything and everything.

Dark and nefarious Wall Street financiers rigged world economic conditions to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state. Sure, why not?

If there was a focus at all, it was on that giant concatenation of interlocking financial linkages known in the popular lexicon as "Wall Street." Somewhere in the labyrinth of collateralized debt obligations, mortgage derivatives, "swaps," and global ETFs, there were larcenous financiers who accepted taxpayer bailouts and spurned the unemployed.

Will Obama's Jobs Speech Inspire Confidence? - Yahoo! News

Will Obama's Jobs Speech Inspire Confidence? - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | There are no great expectations of the president's jobs speech slated for tonight. The bottom line is that the economy needs at least 150,000 new jobs per month to break even, and GDP must grow at a minimum of 3 percent.

In simplified terms, there are two opposing political philosophies at work.

There is the Keynesian model of getting federal money into the economy by one means or another. People who hold this view believe that past Obama stimulus plans failed because the government didn't spend enough on infrastructure jobs, unemployment benefits, federal hiring, 'green' technology, and social welfare.

COMMENTARY | Give Texas Gov. Rick Perry a big welcome of applause. He sure knows how to create a sense of drama surrounding the announcement today that he'll run for president.

With the Ames Straw Poll in progress in Iowa, the long, tall Texan headed to South Carolina, another early primary voting state, where the official announcement took place. If the "long, tall Texan" tag sounds a bit too fatuous, consider that many Republicans have greeted the current field of candidates with yawns and snide comments.

Not me. At this point, I like them all. America needs to turn from the path of European socialism-lite, and any of the GOP candidates will do.

I identify with Rick Perry already. Like the Texas governor, I sometimes take a pistol with me when I'm jogging or hiking along lonely roads and trails. Pennsylvania has more bears than thugs, but neither is in short supply.

Obama Administration to Continue War on the Dollar - Yahoo! News

Obama Administration to Continue War on the Dollar - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | The danger of populism is that you could end up in the arms of demagogues who rail at the wealthy and expect you to be satisfied with promises that never materialize. Avoiding that trap, it is perfectly sensible to fight the cheap dollar, and the people who dilute it.

A site called InvestorWords.com defines dollar weakness as currency that can "only be exchanged for a small or decreasing amount of foreign currency."

I won't be buying any foreign currency any time soon; I can hardly afford to visit America.

The InvestorWords definition of a weak dollar explains that a weak dollar favors exports. That's an outmoded definition, though still useful in muting opposition to Obama administration monetary policies.

In fact, what a weak dollar exports most of all is jobs. The financial markets and giant corporations can get funding for free from the U.S. taxpayer and then shelter it by moving jobs, investments, and output to foreign countries where they reap profits in stronger currencies.

Is the New General Motors a Spin Story? - Yahoo! News

Is the New General Motors a Spin Story? - Yahoo! NewsThe good earnings news about the new General Motors may be obscured by a continuing sell-off on Wall Street as the major indexes continue their plunge in the ninth of 10 days . According to Reuters, GM's better than estimated second quarter earnings didn't boost the stock price as an overall market swoon dragged stocks down.

The news of GM's profit is particularly important to the White House, which bailed out the once-doomed U.S. automaker thanks to the largely involuntary largesse of taxpayers.

GM's share price for common stock at the time of its November IPO was $33; today's inter-day price is $26.33.

Stocks Continue Longest Slide Since 1978 - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | The great thing about economic forecasting is that you can rarely be proven wrong. I'm waiting for the day when Bloomberg News, CNBC or Fox Business News begins a daily forecasting interview with a homeless man who lives under a bridge.

"Things are looking up. Today's going to be the day," he'll say with an optimistic smile.

It's the same stuff we've heard from President Barack Obama's economic advisers. If the optimism seems out of place, consider the White House is anxious to avoid any comparison with a 1979 Jimmy Carter malaise speech.

Case of the Purloined 1933 Double Eagles Resolved in Philadelphia - Yahoo! NewsFunny how purloined gold coins can make family secrets bubble to the surface. My beloved grandfather died when I was fourteen, and the youngest of several cousins who regularly visited the cramped family home in Pennsylvania.

Pietro lived next door to my parents and frequently wore a dark vest with a gold pocket watch and chain. Attached to the gold watch chain was a $10.00 gold 'Eagle' coin. He had a vintage shotgun that he'd acquired about a hundred years ago, and when I was a little boy, I'd trundle behind him when he went hunting rabbits.

Pennsylvania Union Files NLRB Complaint to Stop Off-Duty Arrest - Yahoo! NewsThe state is in reform mode, which makes it even harder to explain why the Scranton Policeman's Union picked this year to file a lawsuit against Police Chief Dan Duffy with the National Labor Relations Board.

The NLRB complaint stemmed from an off-duty arrest of a drug dealer by Chief Duffy. The arrest violated the labor contract with the police officer's union, they say.

The police officer's union is interpreting the contract to mean that arrest can only be made by members of the "bargaining unit."

Party's Over for Caylee Anthony, Max Shacknau and Rebecca Zahau - Yahoo! NewsIf those many photos of Casey Anthony getting down in the Orlando, Fla., club scene are any indication, there's a downside to the upside of the partying life.

Somewhere along the line in the Florida club scene, Casey lost her baby Caylee and was so conflicted about it she tried to dance all her troubles away. Unfortunately, the poor baby's skeleton was found at the edge of a swampy wood in December 2008.

Life for Casey got all messy after that.

Wendi Deng: The Murdoch with the Big Punch - Yahoo! After Tuesday, the thing they will remember most about the News of the World scandal is the punch Wendi Deng threw to protect spouse Rupert Murdoch from an attacking nobody struggling toward the limelight.

It was a ridiculous scene, something that should have never happened, something that left you worrying that some terrorist could just waltz into a Parliamentary proceeding and begin shooting. Murdoch's attacker, the guy who tried to throw a shaving cream pie in Murdoch's face, is described as a comedian and activist.

Gay Republican GOProud Organization to Meet with Michele Bachmann - Yahoo! News

Gay Republican GOProud Organization to Meet with Michele Bachmann - Yahoo! NewsInterrupted while watching a CNN "American Morning" segment hosted by Ali Velshi, I hit the "pause" button so as not to miss the interview he was conducting with GOProud Chairman Chris Barron.

When I returned, the "freeze frame" showed a snarling Velshi beside the gay man who could have passed for a Marine, a corporate CEO, a teacher, a nurse, or anything else in the range of American careers.

It soon became apparent that Barron was there not to explain a point of view, but to be a victim of the host's single-minded purpose.

"A conservative group that also supports gay rights wants to meet with presidential candidate Michele Bachmann," Velshi began.

News Corp's Hacking Intrusions Raise Questions About Media Overreach - Yahoo! NewsThe latest troubles for Murdoch's media empire began with the alleged 2002 intrusion into the voice mail system of murdered British schoolgirl Milly Dowler. If news coverage of Dowler's sensational murder seemed too thorough, it may have been because the tabloid's reporters were listening to her phone messages after she had been killed.

British police believe that News of the World reporters deleted the murdered 13 year old's messages when the voice mailbox became full. That illegal phone activity led Dowler's parents to have false hopes that their child was still alive.

Michele Bachmann Tees Up Iowa Caucuses, Leads in Republican Poll - Yahoo! NewsMichele Bachmann's rise continues to confound political analysts. The latest TIR Republican poll has a 4.4 percent margin of error.

Early polls mean little in terms of final outcomes in political races, but the surprise in this one is that Bachmann has persevered in the face of persistent hammering on liberal blogs and media outlets. It may be that the personal attacks on Bachmann are helping her ratings.

Libya Kinetics Extended in Senate Foreign Relations Committee Vote - Yahoo! News

Libya Kinetics Extended in Senate Foreign Relations Committee Vote - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | If you asked an American why the U.S. is involved in Libya, you'd likely get a blank stare, even from military hawks. Outside of Congress, where discontent is building, there is little dialogue with Americans about the conflict in Libya and none attempted.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates was at a loss to explain why we are in Libya, saying the U.S. had no strategic interest there.

Out of curiosity, I asked the question in Yahoo "Answers," a Q-and-A site where question topics range from the mysterious to the serious, and so do the answers.

Pennsylvania House Debates Voter Identification with Bill 934 - Yahoo! News

Pennsylvania House Debates Voter Identification with Bill 934 - Yahoo! NewsThere's no doubt that photo ID regs would cut deeply into the Democratic Party voter ranks. ACORN was hit with felony charges and fines for registering Democrats from the phone book. President Carter was on a bi-partisan commission in 2004 to reform the process and said that voter photo ID rules were both practical and desirable to ensure the integrity of the process. The Commission on Electoral Reform cited two cases of massive voter fraud in Wisconsin and Washington state where the outcome was decided (after court trials) by voter fraud. Anecdotally, there was a great deal of voter fraud in 2008, I think. Anyway, rounding up skid row ppl and paying them to vote shouldn't be counted as real votes even for Democrats. At the same time, there are incidences of Republicans doing it, too, but less so. The idea is to stop it--otherwise we're just a New Banana Republic (which somtimes I think we're becoming.) ..

Was Operation Gunrunner a Pet Project of Gun-Control Senators? - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | There is a tenuous connection between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Enforcement, Operation Gunrunner, and top Democrats in the Senate, but it's a connection worth looking at.

The quick brief on "Operation Gunrunner" is that it was a misguided ATF plan hatched by as yet unknown ATF officials which allowed guns purchased in the U.S. to "walk" across the borders into Mexico. Anyone tempted to think that would be a good idea should think of trying the same thing with gangs like MS-13 operating in the U.S.

Rick Santorum Seeks to Fill Conservative Niche in 2012 Elections - Yahoo! NewsThe political referees counted out former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum after his resounding defeat by incumbent Bob Casey in 2006, but the two-term senator is back for another bout. Good Morning America's George Stephanopoul o s gave Santorum a fair shake in an interview this morning. Was it that Stephanopoulos regarded Santorum as so unlikely a winner that he could afford to tout the former senator's qualifications?
Perhaps, but Stephanopoulos could not justifiably ignore the magnitude of Santorum's defeat in 2006. Casey took 58.7 percent of the Pennsylvania vote compared to 41.3 percent for Santorum.

Cindy Anthony Testimony Reveals a Mother's Deep Wounds - Yahoo! News

Cindy Anthony Testimony Reveals a Mother's Deep Wounds - Yahoo! News"I used pretty much a whole can of Febreze," said Cindy Anthony, continuing her courtroom testimony Tuesday in the capital murder trial of her daughter Casey.
Casey's mother described the efforts she made to remove the odor from the Pontiac Sunfire, which smelled of decomposition even after weeks at an auto impound lot. Cindy and George Anthony were not the first persons to notice the smell of decomposition. Tow truck operator Simon Birch had previously testified he knew "what that smells like."
Cindy Anthony told the court the odor was so strong that it permeated several of the items found in the car. With a mother's concern, Cindy today described how she attempted to remove the odors emanating from the car.
Among the items Cindy Anthony retrieved from the Pontiac Sunfire was Caylee's favorite doll. First using Clorox wipes to clean the doll's face and hands, Cindy felt she needed stronger stuff because the doll's body was soft and had absorbed the odor.
"I sprayed Febreze throughout the car thinking that might help the odor," Cindy explained with tears in her eyes.

It's kind of like that Shakespeare thing: "Out, out, damned spot!"

Obama Is Likely to Lose - WSJ.comYou know the conventional wisdom. It is that unemployment ticking down, plus the economy inching back, plus the power of the presidency to affect events, equals a likely Obama victory in 2012. Smart people, especially Republicans, believe this. But how about this for a thought: It's not true. It's all wrong. Barack Obama can be taken, and his adversaries haven't even noticed. In fact, he will likely lose in 2012. Only one thing can save him. More on that further down.

GOP Should Consider Donald Trump, Allen West 'What If' Scenario - Yahoo! News

GOP Should Consider Donald Trump, Allen West 'What If' Scenario - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | Charlie Sheen may provide ammunition for late night comics but he also imparted at least one important message to America: "Winning!" But while Sheen can simply declare himself a winner, the next president will have to go to the voters to get the nod.

For both major parties, the issue to be decided is whether their 2012 candidate will be ideologically "pure," or a stew of conflicting ideas and actions. President Obama would seem to fit both descriptions, and faces no real primary challengers.

Obama's ideological purity was set early on his background as a social activist and a two-year Senate stint during which he railed against the Iraq war and other Bush policies. But the president now has a record to run on, and that makes the race more difficult for Democrats.

NPR -- Radioactive, Unplugged - Yahoo! News

NPR -- Radioactive, Unplugged - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | NPR's Vivian Schiller is not likely to follow Juan Williams, the man she fired, to a broadcast job at Fox News. Neither will Ron Schiller, in the starring role of a Project Veritas video, as he perpetuates the libel of Jewish media control.

Vivian Schiller resigned as NPR chief after a videotaped meeting in which Senior Vice-President Ron Schiller (no relation) made embarrassing and prejudicial remarks to two men posing as potential Muslim contributors.

In the video, Ron Schiller disparages the Tea Party, Christians, "weird" Evangelicals, and "white, middle-America gun-toting racists." Ron Schiller was nonplussed as the Muslim poseurs engaged him in a clichéd and bigoted characterization of a Tea Party dominated by fanatics and a U.S. media "controlled by Jews" and "Zionists."

Ron Schiller may be a hard man to find. It was initially announced that he planned to leave NPR to work for the Aspen Institute , a liberal advocacy organization with a Palestinian agenda. But now the Aspen Institute has obliterated what used to be a statement announcing the Schiller hiring, and replaced it with one saying he won't be working there.

Yahoo News obtained a copy of the original press release announcing the Ron Schiller hiring. Perhaps the shared values of Aspen Institute CEO Walter Isaacson mentioned in the press releases weren't the right values, after all.
