It’s really a sorry thing that Barack Obama would get a knee-jerk lift from the economic bad news. Such a lift comes at the expense of the facts. Democrats have long pushed sub-prime mortgages on people who could not afford them. And people always blame the president for anything that occurs, not the dominant Democratic congress with its sub-prime approval rating. That is not surprising in a campaign which has much of the media obsessing on opposition to President Bush and Republicans in general. If the left-stream media had even a minute amount of imagination, they would be able to envision a world in which Saddam Hussein was still threatening his neighbors and terrorist Islamic militants were bombing subway trains while being served with subpoenas.
Of course, Obama is not too proud to benefit from America’s bad news. He goes around promoting this tide of hopeful optimism, a feeling that any change is positive and the self-delusion that change in itself will improve the economy and resolve all problems. There’s nothing more fatuous than that notion. Cuba got change with Castro. Russia got change with the Stalinists. America got change with the 9-11 attacks.
Even at this late date, the latte Arugulati have not required anything more of Obama than that he pose thoughtfully and recite a few slogans. Perhaps Democrats know that Obama is already figurehead, an empty suit who can be controlled by the usual party apparatchiks who will make up a shadow government.
For now, Obama’s polls are rising and America’s stock is falling. Should the slavish media continue along its path of trying to engineer a media coup d’etat, the country will suffer beyond its wildest dreams.
