* The Columbian hip-hop artist known as "El Duke" conveyed an anti-violence message that may have got him killed and caused "60 musicians linked to him…to flee Medellin," according to the Christian Science Monitor.
* NBC reports that Detroit, once known as the "Murder Capital," broke through its old previous 40-year homicide rate in 2012 with the stabbing death of an 8-year-old girl and the shooting of a cab driver.
