Romney Picks Up Speed, Exuding Confidence - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | I hadn't quite made up my mind whom I'd support in the GOP 2012 primary and was leaning toward Newt Gingrich when the attacks on Bain Capital started.
It wasn't so much that I'm this great capitalist or anything. It's just that the economy works a certain way, and struggles to be free of government interference.
Moreover, the 1989 collapse of the Soviet Union made it all clear enough. The "dictatorship of the proletariat" was exposed as a hoax.

Myth of the Great-Hearted Former Slave - Yahoo! News
Myth of the Great-Hearted Former Slave - Yahoo! News
COMMENTARY | Being skeptical of a story is not the same thing as believing it is entirely untrue, as in the following: The Sideshow presents items of peculiar interest. An item purports to be a letter from a former Tennessee slave to his former slave owner.
The newspaper of attribution was the New York Daily Tribune of August 1865. Presumably, the letter and the Flickr image of the Tribune have been verified as accurate, a stated requirement of the Letters of Note website.
A curious problem with authenticity arises, however, if you note the Library of Congress' New York Daily Tribune list of digitized volumes begins in 1875. A minor point, perhaps, but it signals the letter might have had a different origin.

Rep. Allen West and Fox News' Bob Beckel Fail to Communicate - Yahoo! News
Rep. Allen West and Fox News' Bob Beckel Fail to Communicate - Yahoo! News
COMMENTARY | Fox News pundit Bob Beckel has a political problem, and his name is Rep. Allen West of Florida.
Beckel appeared on Fox News this morning angrily protesting West's exhortation that certain members of the Democratic Party should take their "message" and "get the hell out of the United States of America."
That's what happens when you express feelings rather than calculated political statements. In politics, one must leave candor at home.
Beckel had been previously chided on the Fox panel program "The Five" for showing disrespect to the retired Iraq war veteran turned congressman. Beckel stubbornly refused to address West by his military or civilian title as a representative of Florida.

Tom Brokaw is "extremely uncomfortable," says Mediaite, and doesn't want his name associated with Mitt Romney's GOP primary race.
Through the NBC legal department, the reporter is requesting Romney's campaign stop using a Brokaw clip from a 1997 "NBC Nightly News" broadcast.

A Dissenting View of the Great South Carolina Gingrich Landslide - Yahoo! News
COMMENTARY | After Newt Gingrich's convincing win in South Carolina, the meme du jour is "debates do matter." Flip on any television news show and you're destined to hear this all-purpose story line about the GOP primary in South Carolina.
Gingrich is an able orator but not everyone is convinced that grand oratory did the trick for Gingrich in South Carolina. The Ticket underscored the demographic rift in Republican politics that Democrats are striving to broaden.
Gingrich won 45 percent of South Carolina primary voters who "identified themselves very conservative," with Mitt Romney at 20 percent. Among those identifying themselves as evangelical, Romney only got half the votes Gingrich did.

Keystone XL Pipeline Decision Is Bombshell Political Issue - Yahoo! News
The Keystone XL Pipeline could turn out to be the exploding dye-pack of the Obama administration's energy policy. In order for the most recent debt extension to pass Congress, the president agreed to a February 21 deadline for deciding whether to approve or halt the plan. The proposed Keystone XL Pipeline is a conduit for shipping Canadian oil to refineries in Texas. There is a split in the president's base, with environmentalists opposed and unions favoring construction.

Gingrich Firms Sell Legislative Information and Connections - Yahoo! News
Wall Street Journal writer Brody Mullins today injected new fuel into the debate over venture capitalism, examining Newt Gingrich's activities in consultation with financial firms like Credit Suisse.
Gingrich's panoply of companies are not venture capitalist firms but instead capitalize on the revolving door between government and private interests.
Whether termed "revolving door" or "crony capitalism," the facts of Gingrich's consulting groups undermine his claim of being an anti-establishment iconoclast.

Gingrich, Perry Backslide with Anti-Capitalist Attacks in New Hampshire - Yahoo! News
COMMENTARY | The real shocker about the New Hampshire GOP primary race was when Newt Gingrich, followed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry, fell into the rabbit hole of class warfare.
Class resentment has been a mainstay of Democrat politics for decades, and Republicans have always been quick to tell them so. What's different now is that Republicans Gingrich and Perry are telling them they're right.
Days before the New Hampshire primary, Perry joined Gingrich in condemning Romney's involvement with Bain Capital, a venture capitalist firm with more successes than failures.
Gingrich's intellectual prestidigitation only tricked himself, and damaged his reputation among GOP conservatives. Populist Perry should have resisted the temptation but didn't and followed Gingrich down the yellow brick road.

In 2008, then-Sen. Obama advocated extending constitutional due process rights to accused terrorists associated with the 9/11 plot. As president, Obama's administration continued to push for due process trial in New York City and lambasted critics of civilian trials for the detainees, according to Reuters.
