COMMENTARY | I shuddered one October day in 2006 when I heard the live broadcast of a small plane which crashed into an apartment building on New York City's Upper East Side, close to where our daughter shared an apartment with three other young women.
After a few minutes of frantic phone calling, we connected and found her at a window watching the flames in the building across the street and a few buildings down from her own.
The crash killed New York Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle and his flight instructor. Such accidents are not common in New York City, but neither are they rare.
