Social Security Disability Programs Have Structural Problems - Yahoo! News
Social Security Disability Programs Have Structural Problems - Yahoo! News The Yahoo! News web site today published an article explaining in detail how the Social Security Disability system will be bankrupted even before the retirement and Medicare programs.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the disability program will run out of money in 2017, as opposed to 2040 for the Retirement and Medicare system.
Lots of people need and deserve social security disability benefits. However, there are many people receiving benefits who have simply defeated the system.

COMMENTARY | People who are suffering most from this recession speak of policy issues in blunt terms, and not in the refined, euphemistic way that political officials spoon-feed information to them.
When your gasoline bill for a single fill-up at the gas station is $60 or more, it's not uncommon to hear people say &()*(&)* to those folks in Washington.

Easton Says President Obama Could Return from Vacation with Great Idea - Yahoo! News
Reporter Nina Easton, a member of the Fox News panel on Brett Baier's "Special Report," unwittingly teased the audience with high hopes for a vigorous presidential message.
"After all, FDR went on vacation at a critical time and came back with the Lend-Lease program," she said.
To which the acerbic Washington Post writer Charles Krauthammer replied: "If the President comes back with a Lend-Lease program, I'll change and become a Democrat."

COMMENTARY | Give Texas Gov. Rick Perry a big welcome of applause. He sure knows how to create a sense of drama surrounding the announcement today that he'll run for president.
With the Ames Straw Poll in progress in Iowa, the long, tall Texan headed to South Carolina, another early primary voting state, where the official announcement took place. If the "long, tall Texan" tag sounds a bit too fatuous, consider that many Republicans have greeted the current field of candidates with yawns and snide comments.
Not me. At this point, I like them all. America needs to turn from the path of European socialism-lite, and any of the GOP candidates will do.
I identify with Rick Perry already. Like the Texas governor, I sometimes take a pistol with me when I'm jogging or hiking along lonely roads and trails. Pennsylvania has more bears than thugs, but neither is in short supply.

President Obama Has a Huge Fan in Iowa Farm Country - Yahoo! News
President Obama Has a Huge Fan in Iowa Farm Country - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | During the rancorous budget deficit debate, President Barack Obama's strategy was to position himself above the fray and be remembered for applying a guiding hand to the incorrigible children of Congress. The media dutifully played along, emphasizing the president vs. Congress scenario outlined by the president's strategists.
The end result was that cognitive-dissonance became the national policy with the creation of a "Super Congress," which effectively assuaged all egos and put the $14.4 trillion debt problem on the shelf for another day.
Congress claimed victory and went home as President Obama's press secretary announced a presidential vacation on Martha's Vineyard, Mass.

FBN's Charles Payne Wonders: Is Obama Smart? - Yahoo! News
FBN's Charles Payne Wonders: Is Obama Smart? - Yahoo! NewsPayne criticized what he termed another Obama "campaign speech" Monday, calling it "the worst speech of his presidency." He found particularly galling the president's implication that unlimited unemployment checks were another civil right."
The criticism followed a Payne interview today with Wall Street Journal editorial writer Brett Stephens who is the focus of much attention for an article titled "Is Obama Smart?"
The gist of the article was not that the president was unintelligent, but that Obama is a mediocre man surrounded by media flatterers who habitually elevated Obama's prosaic pronouncements to the level of the divine.

African American Environmentalist Association: Charles Payne and Wall Street Strategies, Inc.Dressing for success and carrying a briefcase in some New York neighborhoods could be a dicey proposition when neighborhood youth couture tends to favor sagging pants and advertised underwear. But Payne is not the kind of guy you’d pick to make fun of. You can easily imagine him switching to street trash talk if hindered on his way to success.

Obama Administration to Continue War on the Dollar - Yahoo! News
Obama Administration to Continue War on the Dollar - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | The danger of populism is that you could end up in the arms of demagogues who rail at the wealthy and expect you to be satisfied with promises that never materialize. Avoiding that trap, it is perfectly sensible to fight the cheap dollar, and the people who dilute it.
A site called InvestorWords.com defines dollar weakness as currency that can "only be exchanged for a small or decreasing amount of foreign currency."
I won't be buying any foreign currency any time soon; I can hardly afford to visit America.
The InvestorWords definition of a weak dollar explains that a weak dollar favors exports. That's an outmoded definition, though still useful in muting opposition to Obama administration monetary policies.
In fact, what a weak dollar exports most of all is jobs. The financial markets and giant corporations can get funding for free from the U.S. taxpayer and then shelter it by moving jobs, investments, and output to foreign countries where they reap profits in stronger currencies.

Is the New General Motors a Spin Story? - Yahoo! News
Is the New General Motors a Spin Story? - Yahoo! NewsThe good earnings news about the new General Motors may be obscured by a continuing sell-off on Wall Street as the major indexes continue their plunge in the ninth of 10 days . According to Reuters, GM's better than estimated second quarter earnings didn't boost the stock price as an overall market swoon dragged stocks down.
The news of GM's profit is particularly important to the White House, which bailed out the once-doomed U.S. automaker thanks to the largely involuntary largesse of taxpayers.
GM's share price for common stock at the time of its November IPO was $33; today's inter-day price is $26.33.

Stocks Continue Longest Slide Since 1978 - Yahoo! News
Stocks Continue Longest Slide Since 1978 - Yahoo! NewsCOMMENTARY | The great thing about economic forecasting is that you can rarely be proven wrong. I'm waiting for the day when Bloomberg News, CNBC or Fox Business News begins a daily forecasting interview with a homeless man who lives under a bridge.
"Things are looking up. Today's going to be the day," he'll say with an optimistic smile.
It's the same stuff we've heard from President Barack Obama's economic advisers. If the optimism seems out of place, consider the White House is anxious to avoid any comparison with a 1979 Jimmy Carter malaise speech.
