Rick Santorum after his resounding defeat by incumbent Bob Casey in 2006, but the two-term senator is back for another bout. Seeing a staunchly conservative niche not yet fully occupied, Santorum officially announced today he's running for president in 2012.
Good Morning America's George Stephanopoul o s gave Santorum a fair shake in an interview this morning. Was it that Stephanopoulos regarded Santorum as so unlikely a winner that he could afford to tout the former senator's qualifications?
Perhaps, but Stephanopoulos could not justifiably ignore the magnitude of Santorum's defeat in 2006. Casey took 58.7 percent of the Pennsylvania vote compared to 41.3 percent for Santorum.
